A robbery conspirator has been on the run following his temporary release and Derbyshire Police have appealed for information to find.

Faruk Suleman, 52, convicted in 2018 of plotting to commit robbery and possess a firearm, was lodged in HM Prison Sudbury, serving a jail term of 13 years and six months.

But he has not returned to the Category D prison after he was released temporarily on New Year’s Day.

In his bid to become rich quickly, the man from Leicester, along with other members of his gang, conspired to rob a wealthy family in Woking, Surrey. According to their plan, one of the gang members posing as a courier or pizza delivery man was to get the occupants of the house to the front door before they could rob them.

Armed with two imitation handguns, a hammer, a baseball bat, screwdrivers, balaclavas, gloves and gaffer tape, they were on their way to commit the planned robbery, when the police confronted them.

In addition to conspiracy to commit robbery, Suleman was also convicted of possessing Class B drugs and Leicestershire Crown Court jailed the offender.

Derbyshire Police have now asked members of the public to contact the force if they find the man who has a full sleeve tattoo on one arm and a Liver bird tattoo on the other.

The five-foot-and-nine-inch-tall man with medium build “may have facial hair and sometimes wears glasses”, the force said, adding that he has links to Birmingham, Leicester, Staffordshire and Sheffield.

Members of the public have been warned against approaching Suleman who may also go by the name Mohammed Ismail.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts may contact Derbyshire Police by calling 101 or by visiting the force’s website or its social media channels.

Independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously at 0800 555 111 or by visiting its website.
