A tragic event has unfolded in New York’s Richmond Hill, where a 33-year-old man originally from India’s Punjab gunned down his brother, injured his mother, and later committed suicide. The incident took place late at night on Saturday (8).
The man, identified as Karamjit Multani (27) and a father of three, allegedly entered the room of his brother Vipanpal Multani (27) and opened fire, hitting him in the chest before fleeing. He also shot his mother (52), injuring her. Later, Karamjit was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head and a gun next to his body—a suspected suicide case. The mother is getting treatment at a hospital.
This gruesome incident has sent shockwaves all over New York and even to their native village in the north-western state of India, Punjab, in a village named Narangpur. The attacker’s father stated to the media that the family had dinner before the incident.
As soon as the gunshots took place, their father, Bhupinder Singh, rushed into neighborhood for help and called 911. The statement of the neighbor states that as soon as they entered the house, they saw the victim, Vipanpal was alive, struggling for his life, and in a few minutes he gave up his life.
Former sarpanch Sarabjit Singh Pappal told The Indian Express that Bhupinder Singh was his uncle’s son. Bhupinder, with his wife and sons Karamjit and Vipanpal, settled in the US a long time ago.
Sarabjit Singh said Bhupinder is in shock and still trying to come to terms with the loss he has suffered. Bhupinder told the police and media in the US that he has no idea what led Karamjit to take such an action. He also claimed that the two brothers never had had any problems.
