THE Vale of Glamorgan-based charity Vale for Africa hosted a dinner in Cardiff last month to raise funds for its work in Uganda.

More than 130 colleagues attended the event at the Mercure hotel where £2,622 was raised to support the charity’s activities in Tororo district.

Its trustee Has Shah, who organised the dinner, said the charity along with its partner organisation Community Empowerment in Tororo (ACET) supported rural initiatives focused on the health and education of Tororo residents.

The funds raised at the event will be used to purchase equipment to support the services at Benedictine Eye Hospital and Tororo General Hospital. With the support from the Vale for Africa, both hospitals provide vital healthcare services to thousands of patients.

Funds raised will also go towards the purchase of educational materials like textbooks and maintenance of the library which has more than 3046 registered users.

Under the Water to Schools project, safe water is provided to 32 primary schools and a nursery.

The charity’s trustee Maureen Owor and former chair Ted Arbuthnot made presentations on the charity’s activities.
