Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned of launching a nationwide protest if there is an increase in power and gas tariffs. Despite being in jail for a controversial case involving the selling of gifts, Khan has remained vocal about the country’s political and economic situation.

Speaking from Adiala jail, Khan emphasized the importance of following the public mandate to stabilize Pakistan’s economy. He expressed concerns that further taxation could destabilize the economy, particularly during June and July, noting that most tax revenue went towards debt servicing, which deterred investors.

Khan also criticized the government’s handling of corruption cases, particularly highlighting the lack of action against individuals like Hassan Nawaz, son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who allegedly sold property worth £51.48 million to real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. Khan condemned the lack of accountability in such cases.

He also raised the issue of Malik Riaz, stating, “Malik Riaz is a symbol of corruption. He owns £79.63 million in Pakistani citizens’ cases stuck in courts abroad. This is a reflection of our justice system.”

Khan concluded by affirming that he would not seek a deal to leave the country, unlike some other politicians. He referenced President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who he claimed were seeking immunity or deals to avoid accountability.
