BOLLYWOOD’S AR Rahman garnered his second Golden Globe nomination in three years on Tuesday (December 14) for his score in British filmmaker Danny Boyle`s 127 Hours.
Rahman, 44, had won the Golden Globe and two Academy Awards for his score in Boyle’s film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
127 Hours, based on the true story of mountaineer Aron Ralston, is also up for the ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Actor’ honours in nominations announced on Tuesday.
Rahman is up against veterans like Hans Zimmer (Inception) and Alexandre Desplat (The King`s Speech). Others in the race include Danny Elfman for Alice in Wonderland and Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network.
The Golden Globe awards will be handed out on January 16 in Beverly Hills.
Rahman, who is currently in Europe, is a composer known for his musical versatility.
From romantic compositions to foot-tapping numbers, Rahman has innovated with different instruments and sounds to create some of India’s best-known musical hits for nearly two decades.
The Golden Globe Awards are given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They are closely watched for clues as to which films might vie for the Oscars, the world’s top movie awards given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth, leads nominations for the Golden Globe awards with seven nods.
