MUSIC maestro AR Rahman is in the race for an Oscar award after his song If I Rise from the film 127 Hours was shortlisted in the Best Original Song category.
It was only last week that Rahman bagged a Golden Globe nomination for the his work in the same film, directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle.
Rahman, 44, won the Golden Globe and two Academy Awards for his score in Boyle’s film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
The Indian musician’s song Na Na from his Hollywood debut venture Couple’s Retreat, was longlisted in the Best Original Song category at the 2010 Oscars but failed to win a nomination.
127 Hours is based on the true story of mountaineer Aron Ralston who was forced to cut off his arm to escape from beneath a boulder after being trapped for more than five days.
If I Rise is a collaboration between Rahman and American popstar Dido.
Nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards will be unveiled on January 25 while the award ceremony will take place on February 27 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
The Golden Globe awards will be handed out on January 16 in Beverly Hills.
News of Rahman’s Oscar nomination comes days after it was announced that an Indian-origin manager who heads a financial advisory firm in the US has been nominated for a Grammy Award.
Chandrika Krishnamurthy Tandon, the chairman of US-based financial advisory firm Tandon Capital Associates Inc and the sister of Pepsico chief Indra Nooyi, is in the race for a Grammy.
Tandon’s work Om Namo Narayanaya: Soul Call, featuring Sanskrit chants, was nominated in the Best Contemporary World Music Album category.
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 13.
