THE son of a millionaire steel tycoon has died after falling from his penthouse home in central London.
Angad Paul, son of industrialist Lord Swraj Paul who founded the Caparo group, suffered serious injuries after falling eight storeys on Sunday (8).
He was pronounced dead by paramedics who rushed to the scene. The circumstances of the death of the 45-year-old who was CEO of Caparo group was being treated as non-suspicious at this stage.
His tragic death comes in the backdrop of a crisis facing the Caparo industries which has been hit by a collapse in steel prices, forcing 16 of its companies to be put into administration, a process that is an alternative to liquidation. It resulted in 450 job losses across the UK and another 1,200 in the balance.
Angad who married media lawyer Michelle Bonn in 2005, started projects including the manufacture of super cars, films and design. He was executive producer of a hit movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
Moving to Britain in 1966, his father Lord Paul founded Caparo group with a £5,000 bank loan and was made a peer in 1996, sitting as an independent since 2010.
The Caparo business currently encompasses 40 companies employing 10,000 people worldwide including India. Its interests include manufacture of car components and steel pipes, hotels and hospitality.
