THE devastated family of a missing teenager have re-issued a heartfelt appeal for her to return home whilst the
police have halted their searches on the ground.
Nida Naseer was last seen at her home address in Newport on December 28 last year at around 8pm.
But despite carrying out extensive investigations, the police have now ended their physical searches where they
inspected two miles in each direction of the 19-year-old's home.
She was not wearing shoes and did not have her phone, money or coat with her when she went missing after putting
the bins out from her home in Linton Street, Pill.
Nida's sister Shamyla said she had argued with her family that night and was very upset about the status of her
family who were seeking asylum after coming to the UK from Pakistan five years ago.
Their application was turned down a year ago but they have since appealed, Nida was distressed because the situation
prevented her from going to university.
Shamyla Naseer said: “We miss Nida desperately and want her to come home. She must also be missing us. We miss her
everyday but she has missed things that are special to the family.
"I have passed my exams, mum has had a birthday, she missed her own birthday. Shakeel has also had his 16th birthday
and he is studying for his GCSEs and he’s missing her help.
"Our two year old nephew Hassan has started talking and is calling me La La (Aunty).
"I wish Nida could be here so he could say the same to her, instead he looks at her picture and says it. We want her
to know that she is not in trouble at all, we just want her to make contact.”
Language experts in Urdu and Punjabi, were drafted in to help with the search from Greater Manchester, Thames Valley
and Metropolitan police forces.
There have been in excess of 60 reported sightings of the teenager from across the UK, but none of these have been
positive.
Officers have so far examined over 800 hours hours of CCTV footage, taken more than 200 statements, and completed
450 of the 630 lines of enquiry which were generated to no avail.
Superintendent Mark Warrender, Local Policing Unit Commander for Newport said:
“At this moment in time, the physical searches on the ground, which took in over two miles in each direction around
Nida’s home, have been completed although, of course, if we have further intelligence we will put more searches in
place. We are nearing completion of the extensive CCTV work of which key elements will be reviewed."
Nida is of Asian-Pakistani appearance and has long dark hair, she is slim and is five feet three inches tall.
She was last known to be wearing blue jeans and a black top. Anyone with information is asked to call101 and quote
