INDIA and the UK will discuss key international, regional and bilateral issues such as security, defence and counter-terrorism during British foreign secretary William Hague’s visit on Thursday (November 8).
Hague is in India for a day to strengthen bilateral trade and nuclear co-operation. He will hold talks with his newly-appointed Indian counterpart, Salman Khurshid.
Meetings with India’s finance minister P Chidambaram, national security adviser Shivshankar Menon and other senior dignitaries have also been scheduled for Thursday.
“The foreign minister will reinforce the UK government’s commitment to developing a strong, mutually beneficial and wide ranging partnership with India covering diverse areas such as trade and investment, education, climate change and energy, counter terrorism, cyber security and reform of international institutions,” the UK High Commission said in a release on Wednesday (November 7).
In a release on the visit, the India’s ministry of external affairs said, “Bilateral relations go beyond trade and commerce with increasing focus on cooperation in the fields of science and technology, education, space and defence technology, civil nuclear cooperation, counter terrorism and green energy initiatives.”
