THREE British male teenagers have been detained in Turkey and prevented from travelling to Syria, police said Sunday.

Two are aged 17 and from northwest London while the third is 19 years old, and all three are being held by Turkish authorities.

Scotland Yard police headquarters in London said counter-terror officers were told Friday that the 17-year-olds had "gone missing and were believed to be travelling to Syria".

"Enquiries revealed that they had travelled with a third male, aged 19 years," a spokesman said.

"Officers alerted the Turkish authorities who were able to intercept all three males, preventing travel to Syria. They remain in detention in Turkey. The families have been kept informed of developments."

A source said the trio were detained in Istanbul on Friday.
