SUPERMARKET Tesco have launched a MoneyGram service which will enable customers to transfer and receive funds internationally in store.
All Tesco Superstores and Extras across London and four of the Metro stores in Edmonton, Kings Cross, Portobello Road and Paddington will help customers transfer money back home.
The retail giant is the first supermarket to offer this service – which is traditionally offered by corner shops, post offices and travel agents – in house. Customers can now come to Tesco, do their weekly shopping and transfer money at the same time.
MoneyGram allows customers to send money to 200 world locations in up to ten minutes.
According to the US-based money transfer company, South Asians are the biggest donors when giving money back home with India and Bangladesh at the top of the remittance list. India received £33 billion from money transfers in 2010.
Tesco recently ran a promotion offering a £3 off next shop coupon whenever customers used the service. These incentives are to be run throughout the year with various different promotions exclusive to Tesco. This service will be available seven days a week and until 10pm on weekdays.
A Tesco spokesman said: “Our international money transfer service is offered through our partnership with MoneyGram, and therefore our prices are in line with what MoneyGram offers everywhere else, for example with the Post Office.
“With our stores being open seven days a week and often for 24 hours a day, we do offer customers a more convenient service than any of our other competitors.”
