GOING out for a nice meal in central London inevitably means a hefty bill at the end of the evening.
However, the new Fire & Spice restaurant, located just around the corner from Marble Arch, offers a refreshing change with its cut-price main courses amid some very posh and pricey eateries.
The menu offers a unique fusion of English, Mediterranean and Indian cuisines. The choice between sweet potato cakes and tandoor-fired lamb makes picking one starter a rather difficult task. The salads – though there are just three on offer in the form of haloumi, Greek and chicken Caesar – are probably the most inviting part of the menu, with an equally attractive £5.95 price tag.
Chicken tikka masala, herb-crusted salmon and a range of steaks is sure to please most meat-loving palates. But vegetarians are not ignored, with a selection of pastas and a wild mushroom risotto on offer.
Freshly baked stuffed breads and some good old English chips complete the side orders.
Make sure you save some of your appetite for the inviting array of traditional desserts, including banoffee pie and sticky toffee pudding.
The easy and relaxed atmosphere of this basement hideout caters equally to business lunches or a leisurely gossip session with friends. The chefs plan to keep improvising with seasonal produce to create an ever-evolving menu. Be sure to drop in and offer your own suggestions to the friendly staff over lunch, dinner or just a quick chococcino.
