CURRY lovers know how good an Indian meal is depends on fresh spices, and the spice is just right at Bombay Brasserie.
The swanky restaurant has attracted a lot of celebrity attention since it re-opened its doors after a five-month refurbishment in January. And when you try out the new menu, Shilpa Shetty’s reasons for calling it her favourite Indian restaurant in London will become obvious.
We start with a cocktail in the laid-back lounge and then move to the conservatory area. The show kitchen at its centre and rich marble flooring lend the decor a regal air. The paintings and murals all capture the Raj ambience the restaurant is famous for.
Head chef Prahlad Hegde has been in the headlines recently for creating the world’s most expensive curry, Samudri Khazana or seafood treasure, on offer at £2,000. But there are plenty of traditional vegetarian and non-vegetarian options on the menu for those who prefer their food to cost a little less.
The Dal Hyderabadi remains a staple for any meal, accompanied by Aloo Gobi or Lasooni Palak. The meat dishes are equally inviting, with Kali Mirch Ka Chicken competing with Lamb Chops Achari. For seafood lovers, Anardana Jheenga and Bhatti Prawns both sound impossible to resist.
Dessert after a hearty Indian meal is usually a struggle but you may not be able to resist the creme brulee with a hint of cardamom. A Cobra Coffee rounds off the meal perfectly.
At around £45 per head, this is a posh curry meal, but is well worth it.
