A ROLLERCOASTER journey has seen Rahul Singh go from acting on stage to starring in successful drama serials like Kya Haal Mr Panchal, Shaadi Ke Siyape, Tera Kya Hoga Alia and Badi Door Se Aaye Hai.

The versatile actor is currently starring in SAB TV serial Shubh Laabh – Aapkey Ghar Mein and entertaining audiences  with a multi-layered performance in the popular family drama.

Eastern Eye caught up with the talented TV star to discuss his latest show, acting hero, and dream role.

How did you feel about landing a role in the serial Shubh Laabh – Aapkey Ghar Mein?
I thought it would be a comic role because often SAB TV has a lot of comedy shows, but the colour of this role was different. It is an absolutely natural character with multiple emotions, comedy and everything else. I am having fun doing something different like this.

Tell us more about the experience of working on the show?
It is a very good experience working in the show because there is a familiar atmosphere. The whole actor unit is so good that it doesn’t seem like I come to work and have to do a duty. It’s just like a home environment and absolutely friendly. There is a different excitement to come on the shoot. Very few sets have such an atmosphere.

How does this compare to other acting work you have done?
Totally different! I have got an opportunity to work on something that isn’t just restricted to comedy, and you get to see different sides of this character. I am enjoying it, although it is very challenging for me to do this more serious role, but it’s very interesting.

What has been your favourite part of working on this show?
It’s fun when I have scenes with my reel mother-in-law. And those scenes are fun shooting when my reel wife catches me doing something wrong.

Why do you think this show is loved?
What is special about Shubh Laabh is that every shade and emotion is there in the show. If there is anger in one character, then there is also attachment, love, greed, envy, etc. in another. We can relate everything in this show to our real lives. And where every person goes to seek a solution to his problem, which means God is also there in this show. So, the content of this show is relatable and connects with audiences.

Have you learned anything new working on the show?
Yes, I have learned a lot here. I get to learn from each episode. I got the knowledge of Laxmi Maa. What I especially learned is how to create a positive environment. How to support each other and subsequently act effortlessly.

Who is your acting hero?
The one and only Govinda. He is my idol. I can write a book on him. All I can say is that he is an ocean of art and I love him.

Do you have a dream role?
Yes, I want to play a villain’s role. It’s my dream.

Why should we all tune into Shubh Laabh – Aapkey Ghar Mein?
Because it is a story related to ordinary life, every person can relate to it. Everyone will find the story of Shubh Laabh as their own story.
