A driver who failed to stop after colliding with a motorcyclist in Croydon has pleaded guilty in court.

Mohammed Asim, 25, of Croydon pleaded guilty to death by careless driving and failing stop at the scene of a collision. He was sentenced to 51 weeks imprisonment.

Police and London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called to London Road, Croydon, early morning on Monday, December, 29 2014, to reports of a road traffic collision between a black Lexus which failed to stop at the scene and a motorcycle which was being ridden 23-year-old Kamrul Hasan from Barnet.

Kamrul was treated by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as a chest injury. Asim's car was found abandoned nearby in St James's Road with the junction of Windmill Road.

That same day officers arrested a 23-year-old woman at an address in Croydon. No further action was taken against her.

Asim handed himself in to police and was charged with the offence.
