NEW figures have shown that the UK attracts more immigrants than any other country in the European Union.
In 2010 over half a million people moved to Britain (591,000) more than double the number who migrated to France, which received 251,200.
Spain saw the second highest immigration, at 465,200, followed by Italy with 458,900 and Germany with 404,100.
The countries together took in 61.9 per cent of all immigrants entering the EU, figures from Eurostat showed.
The UK also had the highest number of people acquiring citizenship in 2010, at 194,800.
France was the second highest for migrants gaining citizenship, granting it to 143,300 people that year.
