Chitkar is based on the world famous and original Gujarati play of the same name, which also happens to based on a true story. This play was first staged in 1983 and ran for 25 years in India and overseas and wowing the audience everywhere. chitkar is a gripping story about human relationships and emotions with superlative performances by the lead actors – Sujata Mehta and Hiten Kumar. Sujata Mehta probably holds a world record of an actor having performed the same character for the entire run of the play and now playing the same character in the film. Her character and performance is so intense that doctors would advise her against repeatedly performing the play lest it might actually affect her brain. This film is based on the world famous and original Gujarati play by the same name. It is also based on a true story. Chitkar is a story about a paranoid schizophrenic girl Ratna (Sujata Mehta) with split personality with a violent streak. According to senior psychiatrists, it was impossible to cure her illness. Dr. Markand (Hiten Kumar) a brilliant psychiatrist who is devoted to his career and patients learns about this case that has been admitted to the same mental asylum and hospital where he works. He takes it up as a challenge to cure Ratna of her disease to prove to the world that there is nothing that cannot be cured with medicines along with caring for the patient and getting into the root cause of each case. Dr. Markand jumps headlong into the case with a view to cure Ratna completely and bring her back into mainstream society and give her a chance to lead a normal life.
