FANS of acclaimed Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu are in for a treat as he is set to perform later this month at Ronnie Scott’s.
Over three nights, starting March 24, Gurtu will be accompanied by Frederick Köster (trumpet), Tulug Tirpan (piano, keyboards) and Achim Seifert (bass) at the renowned central London venue.
Gurtu is set to include material from his most recent album Spellbound, released last year, and which features compositions by legendary trumpeters such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Don Cherry, who encouraged a young Gurtu in the 1970s.
During a career spanning more than three decades, Gurtu has collaborated with a range of musicians, among them John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Jan Garbarek, Bill Evans, Pharoah Sanders and Dave Holland.
Indian greats Zakir Hussain, L Shankar, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariprasad Chaurasia, The Misra Brothers and Sultan Khan have all also performed with Gurtu.
