HONEYMOON murder suspect Shrien Dewani will be in a jail like a "five-star" hotel a court heard today.

Mr Dewani is currently fighting attempts for his extradition in Belmarsh Magistrates. South African authorities accuse him of being responsible for the kidnapping, robbery and murder of his wife Anni Dewani, and want him to stand trial in South Africa.

The court heard claims that Mr Dewani could face sexual abuse and kept in overcrowded prison cells if he was kept in a South African jail.

But South African judge Deon Hurter van Zyl said he would be in a jail like a "five-star" hotel.

The South African judge told the court that if Mr Dewani was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to less than 20 years in custody he would be sent to Malmesbury Medium A prison.

Whe asked about the conditions about the prison he said: "I thought 'if this is the quality of prisons it looks far too much like a five-star hotel'."

The prison is currently 13% over capacity, but the judge described this as "really nothing".

Mr Dewani, who denies any wrong doing was not in court after District Judge Howard Riddle agreed he could return to Fromeside Clinic, the secure mental health hospital in Bristol where he is on bail. The case continues.
