BRITISH Asian businessman Shrien Dewani has lost his appeal to be extradited to South Africa to face trial over the death of his wife Anni during their honeymoon three years ago.

Bristol-based Dewani, who is in hospital being treated for stress, has always denied allegations that he orchestrated the murder of his new wife in a township near Cape Town in November 2010.

His lawyers have argued that his delicate health does not permit him to travel to South Africa.

On Friday (January 31), however, British judges ruled that it would not be "unjust and oppressive" to extradite Dewani if the government in South Africa pledges to return him to the UK should he ultimately prove unfit to be tried.
