DOCTORS treating sick Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba, one of the country’s most famous gurus, said on Saturday (April 9) he was continuing to show improvement.
However the 85-year-old Hindu mystic remained on a ventilator, according to a statement issued by the Sri Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences in Sai Baba’s home town, Puttaparthi.
The guru, who has a following of millions across the world, has been in hospital for nearly two weeks suffering from multiple problems including a heart condition, lung congestion and kidney failure.
There was “a perceptible improvement in the condition of his kidneys” and his lung infection has partially cleared, the statement said.
“Doctors attending upon him are on the whole satisfied with his stable condition of health and response to treatment,” the medical bulletin said.
Well-wishers have converged on Puttaparthi from nearby areas and abroad, many of them sleeping out in the open on pavements because of a lack of hotel rooms.
