TAMIL superstar Rajnikanth was hospitalised for the second time in less than a week, after he was diagnosed with allergic bronchitis late on Wednesday (May 4), a doctor attending to him said.
The 60-year-old star, who was briefly admitted to a hospital in Chennai last Friday (April 29), returned on Wednesday night after he complained of high fever.
“He needs complete rest. He is in the ICU because people should not come to see him,” Dr Kishore told reporters.
Anxious fans had gathered around the hospital on hearing the news, local media reported.
The actor, largely considered to be India’s highest-paid actor and an icon in south India, was at the inaugural shoot of his latest film Rana last week when he complained of weakness and dehydration. He was given an intravenous drip at a hospital and discharged the same day.
The actor’s daughter, Aishwarya Rajnikanth said he had many visitors after his hospital visit and strained himself.
“What he needs right now is utmost rest. There is absolutely nothing to worry about and he is perfectly fine,” she told reporters.
Rana, a 3D multilingual film which stars Rajnikanth opposite Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, is expected to release some time next year.
