PRINCE Charles on Thursday (November 14) celebrated his 65th birthday at a famous backwaters resort in Kumarakom in Kerala.
Celebrations were held on a modest scale at the sylvan settings of the Lake Resort. Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and his family members called on the royal guests in the morning to extend their greetings and present gifts, official sources said.
The royal couple was scheduled to fly to Colombo this afternoon, where the prince will address the CHOGM meeting.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall had begun their Kerala leg of their nine-day India tour from Kochi on Monday (November 11) and visited Vazhachal waterfalls before coming to Kumarakom in Kottayam district on Tuesday evening (November 12).
Wednesday was a day of relaxation for the couple who enjoyed the panoramic beauty of the palm-fringed lake. They reportedly swam in the resort pool for about an hour.
Though chefs of the resort had prepared Western and Kerala delicacies for the distinguished guests, both of them ate light meals, preferring mostly fruits and tender coconut water for lunch and dinner.
