Nicole Kidman, the Australian-American actress and film producer, was honored by the American Film Institute with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her four-decade-long career in cinema. Renowned for her impactful roles, Kidman’s contribution to Hollywood was celebrated by peers and colleagues at the event. Among those acknowledged in her acceptance speech was her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, reflecting on their shared journey in the industry.
The recognition of Cruise’s influence on her career was noted as a subtle yet significant moment during the ceremony, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Kidman’s acknowledgement of Cruise highlights the respect and appreciation she maintains for their past collaborations and personal history, adding depth to her tribute to the diverse experiences and relationships that have shaped her illustrious career.
Kidman also expressed gratitude to her co-stars and also mentioned how they have transformed her life. “Some of them you may never meet again and some of them you do meet again. Some of them you have incredible laughter and jokes with and you cry with; some of them you fall in love with, some of them you marry,” she said.
Kidman and Cruise were married for 11 years, they got hitched in 1990 when Cruise was at the peak of his career. They met on the sets of Thunder in the year 1989. They have also adopted a daughter and a son during their marriage. Kidman has talked about her relationship and marriage in her previous interview for the magazines.
She had stated, “He was huge; still is. To me, he was just Tom, but to everybody else, he is huge. But he was lovely to me and I loved him. I still love him,” she had said.
Throughout the evening, Kidman’s illustrious career was showcased through a montage of her most memorable performances, ranging from the enchanting showgirl Satine in ‘Moulin Rouge’ to her haunting portrayal of Virginia Woolf in ‘The Hours’, which earned her the coveted Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002.

At the age of 16 Kidman made her debut in remake of the Australian film Bush Christmas. Later, she pursued her acting career.
Currently, she will be seen in The Perfect Couple on Netflix, where she is also an executive producer. Also on Australian TV series The Last Anniversary.
Additionally, Kidman is involved in bringing Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta novels to life on Amazon Prime Video, as well as adapting Leïla Slimani’s novel The Perfect Nanny into an HBO series titled The Perfect Nanny. Further showcasing her versatility, Kidman is also slated to appear in the Apple TV+ series Margo’s Got Money Troubles.
