The new High Commissioner of India to the UK, Ruchi Ghanashyam has congratulated boxer MC Mary Kom for winning a record sixth gold medal in the Women’s World Championships.
Mary Kom on Saturday outclassed Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota by a unanimous 5:0 verdict at the 10th AIBA women’s boxing World Championships at the KD Jadhav indoor hall in New Delhi on Saturday.
“Today, the first woman to win 6 world gold medals in Wrestling is an Indian and I would like to congratulate Mary Kom on her outstanding feat,” Ghanashyam said while speaking at a Diwali Fundraising Gala 2018 at the Radisson blu hotel here Saturday night.
Ghanashyam wore an Assamese saree in honour of Mary Kom.
The High Commissioner also lauded the Indian diaspora in the UK for their achievements in their adopted country.
NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul said: “NRIs will do everything for India. They are proud of it.”
