A MAN who made hoax calls to police about pizza shop staff planning a bomb attack has been jailed for four years.
Shamsul Islam, 23, from Leeds made the false accusations against staff at Paragon Pizza in Knaresborough out of revenge over revealing his insurance fraud.
He told police that employees at the shop received bomb parts through the post.
Islam, who is currently serving an eight year prison sentence for drug offences , was jailed on Tuesday (9) for four years at York Crown Court after being convicted of communicating a bomb hoax.
The court heard Islam was stopped by police while driving his brother's blue VW Golf in Leeds on October 15 last year.
At the time he claimed to be his brother Habibul Islam, and said he lived above Paragon Pizza, where the blue VW Golf he was driving was insured.
But his insurance fraud was exposed when officers contacted the restaurant and staff said Habibul Islam did not live there.
Shamsul Islam made anonymous calls to police the next day claiming the restaurant was a "bomb factory" in revenge against staff.
Habibul Islam, who lives in Leeds, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and making a false statement to obtain insurance. He was given a six month suspended sentence.
