FOUR men including a police officer were in hospital on Sunday (June 16) after being stabbed during an attack at a mosque in the English city of Birmingham, police said.
Officers were called out to a mosque in the city’s Ward End area late on Saturday (June 15) after reports that three men had been stabbed, said a spokesman for West Midlands Police.
While a suspect was being arrested one of the officers was himself stabbed, the spokesman added. All four of the victims were in a stable condition in hospital, he said.
Police are holding a 32-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.
UK Muslim group the Ramadhan Foundation has expressed “deep concern” for the victims and their families, rt.com reported.
"It is too early to speculate on the circumstances of the stabbings, but we must be clear there should be no place for this sort of violence in our country,” said a spokesman for the group, adding that "there will obviously be people who will try to take advantage of this tragedy but we must not allow them to succeed".
