A BRITISH father has appeared in court in Spain on suspicion of killing a man who allegedly filmed his daughter.

Estate agent Devinder Kainth, who lives in the country was enjoying a family meal in a local restaurant when he allegedly noticed the man filming the girl. The 40-year-old is said to have punched Sandro Rottman, a German national who later died in hospital.

Spanish police said Rottman had recently been arrested for possessing indecent images of children. The incident took place on Saturday (7) in the southern resort of Sotogrande on the Costa del Sol.

According to Spanish authorities when Kainth, also known as Victor, discovered pictures of his daughter on the tablet, he threw it on the floor and allegedly punched Rottman in the head before leaving the restaurant.

He was arrested at his home after he was identified by witnesses and has been remanded in custody after he appeared before a magistrate on Monday (8).

A spokeswoman for Spain's Civil Guard said: "The girl's father got up and went to the table where the victim was. "He took the tablet off him, saw that there were recordings of his daughter, and that was when the attack took place."

No weapons were involved in the attack, but Rottman, 43, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital in La Linea de la Concepcion, where he died. Police are waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination.

The restuarnt owner, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Mail: “It all happened very quickly. The German man appeared to be taking pictures of everyone, not just the British man's daughter. It all seemed very innocent to me.

“The British man was with his family. He seemed to get very upset all of a sudden and punched the other man before anyone could stop him.” The manager of another restaurant in Sotogrande said: “The German Sandro had a bad reputation locally and was banned from various bars. “He owed money in various places and walked with a limp and was quite an odd fellow.'

He added: "As I understand it, he was in there with his iPad and taking pictures of people in the bar. “[Kainth] was looking through the photos on the tablet and saw photos of his children.

“Then he went further back and saw pornographic pictures of other children and just went crazy. He punched him to the ground and started kicking him.”

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are urgently investigating reports of the arrest of a British national in the Cadiz area in southern Spain. "We stand ready to provide consular assistance if requested."
