CELEBRITIES expressed their regret and sadness over the blasts that took place in India's financial capital, Mumbai. New Delhi has long accused its arch-rival and neighbour of aiding and abetting the militant groups who have carried out attacks on Indian soil, including the traumatic 2008 assault on Mumbai by Islamist gunmen that claimed 166 lives.

Amitabh Bachchan: “ The bombs did not just drop from the skies. A human, like one of us put it, one of us, who breathed and lived in Indian air – we must get him.”

Priyanka Chopra: “Why do we have to always accept terrorism? Why are we always told to move on? I wouldn't stand for terror anymore and I will not forget this – something needs to be done.”

Hrithik Roshan: “Feeling sad, angry and helpless. I need to believe that there are some good leaders, some good men in position of power in the government to guide this city, to do the right thing. Wherever you are, please come forth and fight for this city.”

Minissha Lamba: “Shoot first, ask questions later. Gandhian principles worked to win us freedom. But terrorism is a new war, in a new world.”

Anupam Kher: “The spirit of Mumbai has a lot to do with livelihood. People have to work to provide for their families. But inside, they are angry and hurt.”

Bipasha Basu: “In the garb of resilience we keep forgetting incidents like this again and again. It's sad as no one is ever punished and loss of life has become a joke.”

Rhea Kapoor: “What does Chidambaram mean by 'reasonably secure'?”

Celina Jaitly: “Is the life of Indians so cheap that we constantly are victims of bomb blasts like some bloody seasonal sale?”

Ram Gopal Varma: “It sickens me the way people after every calamity so desperately pray to the very same entity which has the power to both create it and stop it.”

Punit Malhotra: “We need another Anna Hazare, a new leader, a definite body, an organised system that can help us deal with this terror.”

Raveena Tandon: “When will there be peace in this world? Pained by the death of innocent.”

India's main opposition, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accused the government of being lax. "These repeated attacks on Mumbai should be viewed as a policy failure. It is not an intelligence failure," said top BJP leader L.K. Advani, a former Deputy Prime Minister.
