VEENA player, Hari Sivanesan who recently performed at the Royal Albert Hall has created many onlookers for the Bhavan in London. He began his musical journey here.
“I feel very proud. Hari was trained at the Bhavan by our in-house karnatic vocal and veena teacher, Sivasakti Sivanesan. Another student, Prasannath Devaraja also accompanied Hari on tours with none other than Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar,” said Dr Nandakumara, executive director at the Bhavan.
The Bhavan Centre in London, home for learning Indian dances, languages, music, architecture and yoga saw the finale of the summer school which began on July 16 this year, on Saturday (August 6) and Sunday (August 7).
“Summer school has been one of the major activities at the Bhavan. We thought we must provide the students with something special. We have been doing so for the past 26 years,” Dr Nandakumara added.
Mr C Rajashekhar, Minister (POL) and P&I from the High Commission of India was the chief guest.
The students had the opportunity to showcase skills they had learnt in the different areas such as Karnatic and Hindustani vocal, Violin, Mridangam,Tabla, Sitar, Kathak and Bharatnatyam.
Teachers of international repute were invited from India to teach and guide the students.
“Hindustani vocal music has a universal appeal. Even though different genres of music have emerged but Indian Classical will always remain untouched,” said Shubhra Guha, a renowned Hindustani Vocal musician from Kolkata, who was at the Bhavan to train the students.
‘Kathak’ performance on the composition “Badra dekh dari” received enormous appreciation along with all other performances receiving great applause.
