The team at a Sanctuary Care home in Leicester are over the moon after winning a prestigious regional care award.

Asra House Residential Care Home on Asha Margh picked up The Care Team Award in the Great East Midlands Care Awards 2017, and will now go through to the national finals of the Great British Care Awards in the spring.

The team provides specialist care for residents with an Asian lifestyle, whole-heartedly embracing and celebrating every aspect of their cultural needs and beliefs.

The award, which was presented at a gala night at the East Midlands Conference Centre, follows the home receiving a ‘Good’ rating in all five outcomes, including ‘safe’, ‘caring’ and ‘well-led’ in their recent CQC inspection report.

Speaking of the win home manager Dina Dasani said: “We were really shocked but enormously proud – I still don’t think it has really sunk in yet! The response from our residents and their families has been amazing, they are all so proud of us.

“This is just wonderful for our team and has given them such a fantastic boost. I know they are fantastic but this reinforces that, highlighting the amazing job they do.”

The award is for a care team which is able to demonstrate a shared vision, utilising excellent communication skills whilst demonstrating an on-going commitment to the dignity and privacy of those they care for.

Staff at Asra received praise for how they actively encourage their residents to be involved in the running of the home.

The comments from the judges were: “Asra House present an excellent example of delivering a multi-cultural diverse service by a dedicated, resident led team. They are credited for celebrating Asian lifestyle within residential care.”

Sanctuary Care’s regional manager Cathy Burgum said: “I am so proud of the team it was an absolutely wonderful night and I am truly humbled. We are so passionate about care and it was fantastic to see so many people in one room who are so dedicated to making a difference to people’s lives.”

Dina and her team will now go through to the national finals at Birmingham’s ICC in the spring.

This year’s awards are perfectly timed as they mark the beginning of Sanctuary Care’s 20 year anniversary of delivering care.
