ARCELORMITTAL, the world’s largest steelmaker, said yesterday it had a constructive meeting with Karnataka government officials about its plans to set up a steel plant in the state.

“Our team had a constructive and positive meeting in response to an invitation from the Karnataka government,” Chairman Lakshmi Mittal said in a statement.

“We look forward to working closely with the state government as the project progresses.”

The project will be in addition to ArcelorMittal’s plans to build steel plants in Orissa and Jharkhand, the company said earlier this week.
