Aditi Rao Hydari has garnered significant attention for her mesmerizing ‘Gajagamini walk’ in the popular web series Heeramandi. This distinctive walk has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion.

In a recent interview, Hydari revealed that she was following the instructions of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was unsure of the exact style of the walk. Portraying the character Bibbojaan in the series, Aditi expressed her curiosity about the walk’s origins.

“I want to ask somebody, Sanjay sir, my dance teacher, what is it? Is it the Gajagamini walk, the swan walk? What walk is that I don’t know! I’ll say it was what Sanjay sir asked me to do. I followed Sanjay sir and what he told me. I know in Kathak there is Mayur chaal (peacock walk), then there is Gajagamini (walk of seduction), but I am sure it is in all the dance forms but I don’t know, I should find out.” The walk features prominently in the song ‘Saiyaan Hatto Jaao’.

With Bibbojaan and Heeramandi, I felt I have got more time with a person that I respect and love. I got to live a full life. I just got to be around a genius and absorb. And you know one, two, or three times are not enough with directors like Sanjay. It’s addictive, you want to keep working with him… Whatever role he calls me for, I know it will be something special.”

After captivating audiences as Bibbojaan, Aditi Rao Hydari is set to make an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 14 to May 25. This marks the 77th edition of the prestigious festival, held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès on the French Riviera.
