Police bail Stoke man arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism and supporting a proscribed organisation, has been bailed with conditions pending further enquiries.

The 29-year-old was detained by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at his home address at approximately 7am on Tuesday (17). 

The suspected offences relate to online postings which reference the Islamic State.

The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence led Police said action was not taken because there was any immediate risk to public safety. They added that their enquiries are on-going.

Bail conditions include to live and sleep at his home address and not to post material or comments online.

Anyone with concerns regarding possible extremist material on the Internet can report this anonymously to specialist officers at the national Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit.
