Mindy Kaling, the creator of such popular TV series as The Sex Lives of College Girls and Never Have I Ever, has admitted to being a “prude.”

The Office star, 43, admits that her show The Sex Lives of College Girls, in fact, helped her feel more comfortable with the topic of sex. “I think I had to get cool with being cool with sex. I feel like I am sex-negative. I am like very much of a prude,” she said.

The American teen comedy-drama created by Kaling and Justin Noble first premiered on HBO Max on November 18, 2021. The second season of the series premiered on November 17, 2022. Featuring Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Renee Rapp, Alyah Chanelle Scott, and Gavin Leatherwood on the ensemble cast, the series has received glowing reviews from critics.

Chalamet, who plays Kimberly, a new work-study student who comes from Gilbert, Arizona, a small town that is predominantly white, said that the sex scenes are not as racy as they might seem. “I think the sexual scenes that we play on the show are actually quite safe. We see a lot of post-coital sex. We see tops on, you know? There’s no objectification, I don’t believe, of women on the show. So, I think I have at least always felt very safe and I found it to be fun to learn what it is to be playing this in a comedy,” she said.

In other news, Mindy Kaling on Saturday attended the 13th annual Governors Awards held in Los Angeles. She was among the A-list attendees to hit the red carpet ahead of the ceremony. She rocked a racy black dress with a velvet bust and daring thigh-high slit that showed off her shapely legs.
