Traditional bull race in West Bengal
A farmer with his bulls takes part in the 21st Bull Race at a paddy field in Canning village in West Bengal on July 29. Fifty-three farmers with 128 bulls from across the state, participated in the two-day long race on Sunday (July 29). Winners will be rewarded with daily items such as bicycles, brass pitchers, radio sets, etc. Farmers also participate with the belief that taking part in the race before ploughing their fields will bring good rain and prosperity to their families, and also to encourage young people to take up farming, organisers said.
