Pfizer has already lost exclusive rights to sell ‘Lipitor’ in Canada, Spain, Brazil and Mexico

INDIAN generic drug maker Dr Reddy’s said on Wednesday (August 31) that it had settled a dispute with US pharmaceuticals giant Pfizer over the top-selling anti-cholesterol drug Lipitor.

"The terms of the agreement are confidential and the agreement itself is subject to review by the US Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission," Dr. Reddy’s spokesman said.

Pfizer sued the Indian company in a US court in December 2009 to challenge Dr. Reddy`s efforts to create a generic version of Lipitor which is Pfizer`s best-selling drug.

Lipitor will lose patent protection in the United States in November which means Pfizer will face competition from cheap generic copycats.
